Vanessa
Vine Characteristics
Vanessa vines exhibit moderate vigor and productivity, performing well even on replant sites without the need for grafting. The vine’s growth habit allows it to withstand temperatures as low as -26°C with minimal primary bud damage. Clusters are medium-sized with tightly adhering berries, making them efficient for bulk packaging and transport.
Susceptibility to Diseases and Pests
Vanessa demonstrates moderate resistance to phylloxera, but it is susceptible to powdery mildew and requires a standard spray program for protection. Other fungal diseases, such as downy mildew and black rot, have not posed significant challenges in test vineyards.
