Vine Characteristics
Niagara grapes are a vigorous variety of Vitis labrusca, known for their large, greenish-white clusters. They are primarily used for table grapes, wine production, juices, and jams. The grapes are sweet, juicy, and mildly tangy, with a fresh, fruity flavor that makes them popular for various culinary uses. While they are grown mainly in North America, they are also cultivated in a few other regions.
Susceptibility to Diseases and Pests
The Niagara grape variety is susceptible to several common grapevine diseases and pests. It is moderately susceptible to Phomopsis cane blight and powdery mildew, and highly susceptible to black rot and downy mildew, which can pose challenges for growers. While slightly susceptible to botrytis, the variety is also known to be copper-sensitive, making it important to carefully manage its exposure to phytotoxic chemicals.
