L'Acadie Blanc
Vine Characteristics
L’Acadie Blanc is a cold-hardy variety capable of surviving temperatures as low as -22°C (-7.6°F). It is vigorous, productive, and well-adapted to the cool, maritime climate of Eastern Canada. It ripens early to mid-season, making it well-suited to regions with short growing seasons. The vines perform best with moderately long pruning and thrive in well-drained soils.
Wine Characteristics
L’Acadie Blanc produces a range of wine styles, including still, sparkling, and dessert wines. Its still wines are known for their crisp acidity, with flavors of green apple, pear, citrus, and subtle mineral notes. The grape’s natural acidity makes it well-suited for traditional method sparkling wines, which have gained recognition in Nova Scotia. L’Acadie Blanc is also used for dessert and ice wines, showcasing rich honeyed flavors and a well-balanced sweetness.
Susceptibility to Diseases and Pests
L’Acadie Blanc is resistant to common grapevine diseases, particularly downy mildew and powdery mildew. Its loose clusters reduce the risk of botrytis.
