Origin
This grape variety originates from the west coast of the Iberian Peninsula.
Registration Information
In France, Alvarinho is officially registered in the “Catalogue of vine varieties” on list A and is classified for wine grapes. This variety is also registered in the catalogues of other member countries of the European Union: Spain, Malta and Portugal.
Vine Characteristics
Alvarinho is a medium-vigorous grape variety with a horizontal shape that must be carefully trained. It is not very productive and requires long pruning. It is suitable for acidic, granitic soils and sandy terrain. The Alvarinho clusters are small and the berries are small to medium.
Wine Characteristics
The sugar potential is medium and this grape variety allows the production of appreciated, aromatic (apricot, mint, etc.), fine wines with good acidity.
Susceptibility to Diseases and Pests
Alvarinho is not very susceptible to Botrytis.
